iSpot.tv report: Spanish-language programming and live sports drive ad impressions in the first half of 2022

Spanish-language networks, led by Telemundo, Univision, and UniMás, grew their share of ad impressions by almost 11% in the first half of 2022, according to a new analysis from iSpot.tv. While live sports accounted for 25.5% of TV ad impressions, up 3.1% compared to the same period in 2021. The latter was boosted by the NBCU Winter Olympics, the Super Bowl, the NFL and NBA Playoffs.

New-to-the-ranking ads from Jeep and Cadillac scored big with iSpot’s Ace Metrix survey. Respondents gave Jeep’s “Reservations” ad the best Persuasion Score on the list, with a rating 11.2% above industry norms. Cadillac, meanwhile, made its mark with the music in “Colors of Emotion: RED.” Typically an afterthought, music was named the “single best thing” about the spot by 19% of Ace survey respondents – over 100% above industry norms.

Diabetes brand awareness in the doldrums despite plowing big bucks into ad campaigns

The survey found that brand awareness was weak: Eli Lilly’s Trulicity had just a 29% recall among those surveyed, while Lilly and Boehringer Ingelheim’s Jardiance was at 27% and Merck’s Januvia at 24%. Those drugs topped the list and show just how poorly people remember these meds. And that's despite the big money companies plow into branded ad campaigns. For example, in July, there were five diabetes drugs among the top 10 biggest TV ad spenders, with a total of $79 million, according to iSpot.

Here’s Why VZIO Stock Surged 15% on August 11

VIZIO Holdings (VZIO) recently reported earnings for its second quarter of Fiscal Year 2022. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.01, which beat analysts’ consensus estimate of -$0.01. As a result, shares were up over 15% as of this writing on August 11. In the past eight quarters, VZIO has beat estimates four times.

In addition, sales increased 2% year-over-year, with revenue hitting $408.9 million compared to $401.1 million. The increase in revenue can be attributed to the strong growth of VIZIO’s Platform business, which grew 69% compared to last year.
